Christmas Card Campaign

PRESS RELEASE
Textile Artist Fiona Turley Launches 2011 Christmas Card Campaign in aid of Cancer Research
Renowned textile artist, Fiona Turley, will be launching the 2011 Christmas card campaign to help raise vital funds for Breakthrough Cancer Research. The launch will take place on Sunday, 6th November 2011, from 2.00pm – 6.00pm at the Gallery Crafts Studio in Kilworth, Co. Cork. The launch will be a festive occasion and visitors will be able to enjoy wine, tea and coffee during the afternoon while hearing from Professor Gerry O’Sullivan about the life saving work being funded by these stunning Christmas cards. All are welcome to attend.
This is the seventh year Fiona Turley has generously donated her Christmas card designs exclusively to Cancer Research. Thanks to her generosity, 100 per cent of funds raised from the sale of these cards will go directly to Breakthrough Cancer Research, a national fundraising brand raising money for the local Cork Cancer Research Centre. This research has already led to the development of five new treatments for cancer patients and three further newly developed treatments are slated for clinical trial in the next twelve months. Breakthrough Cancer Research is extremely reliant on the voluntary efforts made by the public and corporate organisations - to date over €70,000 has been raised through the Christmas card campaign.
Each pack contains 10 large square cards, with 2 cards of each design included in the pack. BCR are asking for €10.00 per pack of cards. 100% of the proceeds raised through the sale of Christmas cards goes directly to cancer research programmes aimed at developing new treatments for cancer. Cards can be purchased directly from Fiona’s Gallery Crafts Studio in Kilworth, Co. Cork and the Breakthrough Cancer Research website www.hopeliveshere.ie or simply call 1890 998 998.
With every best wish for Christmas and the New Year!

Editors Notes:
Fiona Turley is internationally renowned for her vibrant use of colour and unique style, and this is very evident in her Christmas card designs (see photo attached).
Breakthrough Cancer Research is the newly established fundraising arm of Cork Cancer Research Centre, which has been making ground breaking discoveries into the disease throughout Ireland and beyond for the past ten years. They work with teams of university based scientists and collaborating clinicians at multiple teaching hospitals in Ireland and abroad, including Beaumont Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, Cork University Hospital, UCC, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, Queens University Belfast, Tyndall Institute, New York University, Weill Cornell Medical College, UCLA amongst others.
Breakthrough Cancer Research was launched as a platform to enable the Centre’s fundraising to stretch as far as their research has gone. It is Ireland’s only charity that is solely dedicated to funding the development of new treatments for poor prognosis cancers, a disease that takes the lives of almost 7,500 Irish people a year with almost 20,000 annually diagnosed.
New Lung Cancer Trials on the way...
Breakthrough Cancer Research is currently aiming to fund three new research programmes to help in the fight against lung cancer, which is by far the most common cause of cancer death in Ireland and for the first time, has now become the main cause of cancer death in women as well as in men, overtaking breast cancer.
